Tips
for
non-U.S. affiliates - and affiliate managers
Excerpt
from Allan Gardyne's "Associate Programs
Newsletter" #164 (July 21, 2001)
I
keep seeing affiliate program sign-up forms
which are written for Americans and ignore
the rest of the world.
This week one sign-up form forced me choose
a state - so my address ended up being
"Alabama, Australia".
Another form refused to work because it
wouldn't accept the fact that Australian
postal codes have only four digits. To
persuade the form to work, I added an extra
zero to my postal code.

Some forms ask for
my tax number - irrelevant because I live in
Australia - and refuse to work unless I enter a
number. I've figured out what to do: Enter 8 or 9
zeroes. That works.
If the affiliate agreement says the program is
only for U.S. and Canadian residents, try phoning
or e-mailing the affiliate program manager and
saying politely that the Internet is
international, and it doesn't really matter where
the keyboard, modem and server are. That works,
too, in some cases.
As one affiliate commented the other day, this is
the WORLD WIDE Web. Affiliate managers, please
remind your techies.
